When fully open, the valve allows straight-through passage with an opening essentially the same size as the inside diameter of the connecting pipe. The handwheel and stem screw (or electric actuator) move a cylindrical plug, the gate, up and down at right angles to the fluid flow. The unique sliding plug design provides a larger seating area that runs 360 degrees around the cylindrical plug.
